NHCO invites walkers to join them in the Walk for a Healthy Community
Join North Hills Community Outreach in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community May 13 at Stage AE on the North Shore. NHCO now offers online registration for volunteering to help seniors
North Hills Community Outreach now has an easy online registration process for those who wish to volunteer to help seniors. Those interested in volunteering for NHCO’s In Service of Seniors: North Program can visit http://nhco.org/volunteer-opportunities/volunteer-help-seniors/ and follow the easy step-by-step registration process. Volunteers are needed to help seniors get to doctor appointments, take them grocery shopping, do light yard work, drive shuttles and more. For more information, call Cathy at 412-307-0069 x 3313.
NHCO is collecting Spring Cleaning supplies
North Hills Community Outreach is collecting spring cleaning supplies to distribute to the families who use our three food pantries. Items are appreciated by June 2, but will be accepted year round. Items needed include: laundry detergent, antibacterial wipes, all-purpose cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, dish detergent, pack of sponges and paper towels. Canvas shopping bags are also appreciated. Please donate Monday through Friday, 9am-4pm at NHCO Allison Park, 1975 Ferguson Road, Hampton, or NHCO North Boroughs, AGH-Suburban Campus, 100 S. Jackson Avenue, Bellevue, or call 412-487-6316 option 1 to make alternate arrangements. The NHCO Allison Park pantry behind the main building will also be open for donations 6:30 to 8:00pm, Wednesday, May 17, and 9:00am to noon, Saturday, May 20.
NHCO collecting safety items for seniors
NHCO volunteers conduct free “Safety for Seniors” home safety checks. As part of the home visit, the volunteer gives the senior a bag of simple safety items that can be used to keep the home safe. Items needed include: new 9-volt batteries, new smoke detectors, baking soda, new nonslip bath mats, night lights and grab reachers.

NHCO offers free Let’s Cook workshops in Millvale
North Hills Community Outreach, in partnership with Christ Lutheran Church of Millvale, is offering free Let's Cook workshops for those interested in learning tips and techniques for eating healthy on a budget. Topics include soups, roasting vegetables, freezing and storing, stir-frying, oven-frying, microwaving, fermenting, smoothies, and herbs and spices. Classes are held 10:30am to noon, third Saturday of each month through November in Christ Lutheran Church, 917 Evergreen Road, Millvale. The next classes are May 20 and June 17. Registration is appreciated so that we may plan for the correct amount of food and equipment, but a limited number of walk-ins are welcome. This class is made possible by a 100 Days of Us grant from The Sprout Fund. Please register by calling 412-408-3830 x 3225.
Ask the Attorney sessions for low-income families
Free legal consultation for issues such as divorce, bankruptcy, credit issues, family matters, rent disputes and more is available for families in need at North Hills Community Outreach locations the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm except December. The next ATA sessions are: NHCO North Boroughs May 17 and NHCO Allison Park June 21. Working families are waiting: Donate your car to Community AutoYour unwanted running vehicle can help a low-income, working individual. Vehicles donated to Community Auto are repaired and sold at below-market value to local, working families who need them to get to work. Cars not suitable for repair are sold at auction and the money is used for the program. Ask us about donating fleet cars!
